Híen Hoang.

Hiền Hoàng, born in 1990 in Vietnam, is a Hamburg-based multimedia artist whose work weaves human memory, nature, and technology into captivating experiences. Now a German citizen, she employs installations, video, VR, and performance to explore ecological and emotional ties. Her project Across the Ocean delves into familial and political trauma through archival materials, earning her a finalist spot for the 2023 Discovery Award at Les Rencontres d’Arles. In Scent from Heaven, she blends VR and scientific data to depict the Agarwood tree’s transformation, securing a 2023 Hamburg Art Grant.

Hoàng’s 2024 project, Garden of Entanglement, supported by an EU S+T+ARTS Grant, uses sonification to reveal trees’ vibrational lives, clinching the Foam Paul Huf Award. Her art, shown at venues like Arles, Madrid’s CentroCentro, and Hamburg’s Kunsthaus, sparks dialogue on technology’s dual role as connector and divider. Collaborating with scientists, she crafts multisensory narratives that challenge how we perceive nature and ourselves, cementing her as a bold voice in contemporary art.
